A chemical peel is a simple procedure in which a chemical solution (usually acid) is applied to the skin to remove the top layers and reveal the healthier, more youthful skin beneath.

Chemical peels can be used to treat wrinkles, discoloured skin (pigmentation), scars and breakouts like acne.

They can be done carried out as a stand-alone, single treatment or, in some cases combined with other cosmetic procedures such as microneedling.

Types of chemical peel differ by way of ingredients and the depth of skin that they work to: superficial to deep.
